WHY AMRS

Robots are leaving the lab and going to work.

They move stock through warehouses, carry medicine along hospital corridors, and keep factories running through the night.

Autonomous mobile robots are one of the fastest-growing fields in engineering, and every year the world needs more people who can build them.

It doesn't matter if you have never built a robot before.

THE JOURNEY

Six stages, one robot.

From your first component to a robot deployed on a real site. Watch your robot come together, stage by stage.

Stage 1 of 6 · Robot Anatomy & Components

  1. STAGE 01 OF 06

    Robot Anatomy & Components

    “It begins with anatomy.”

What every part of a robot does, how motors, batteries and sensors work together, and how to choose the right component for the job.

Robot components — wheel, battery, boards and sensors — laid out on a workbench

    WHAT YOU'LL BUILD

    • An architecture diagram of your own AMR
    • A complete power budget, with battery and fuse sizing
    • The motor, wheel and encoder specification for your robot

    WHAT YOU'LL LEARN

    • Lithium + BMS
    • H-bridge drivers
    • PWM
    • I²C
    • Quadrature encoders
  2. STAGE 02 OF 06

    Mechanical Design & CAD

“Then you give it a body.”

You design the robot's structure in 3D CAD, work out exactly how it moves, and shape a robot that comes from your own imagination.

The robot's chassis as a 3D CAD assembly, with mass, size and payload figures

    WHAT YOU'LL BUILD

    • A kinematics derivation, checked with your own Python validator
    • A complete digital assembly of your robot
    • Laser-cut plates and 3D-printed parts
    • A rolling chassis, assembled and checked for alignment

    WHAT YOU'LL LEARN

    • Fusion 360
    • Python
    • URDF
    • Laser cutting
    • 3D printing
  3. STAGE 03 OF 06

    Electronics & PCB Design

    “Next, its nervous system.”

You wire the electronics and design your own circuit board to power and control the robot, then have it manufactured.

The robot's wiring harness and mainboard fitted inside the metal chassis

    WHAT YOU'LL BUILD

    • Your own manufactured mainboard
    • A complete wire harness
    • A certified electrical system mounted on your chassis

    WHAT YOU'LL LEARN

    • KiCad
    • ESP32
    • Gerber
    • Oscilloscope
    • SMD soldering
  4. STAGE 04 OF 06

    Embedded Programming & Sensors

“Then code brings it to life.”

You learn how software drives hardware, and master every sensor the robot needs, from LiDAR and encoders to the IMU, and the algorithms behind them.

The assembled robot with its 2D LiDAR and depth camera labelled

    WHAT YOU'LL BUILD

    • A robot that drives 5 m in a straight line without drifting
    • A browser dashboard streaming the robot's health
    • Odometry calibrated to under 2 % error
    • Live LiDAR and depth data, proven in a 30-minute stress run

    WHAT YOU'LL LEARN

    • ESP32
    • PlatformIO
    • C++
    • ROS 2
    • LiDAR
    • IMU
  5. STAGE 05 OF 06

    Autonomous Navigation

    “Now it begins to think.”

With ROS 2, your robot maps its surroundings, knows where it is, plans its own path, and understands what it sees.

Top-down view of the robot mapping a room and planning its path around obstacles

    WHAT YOU'LL BUILD

    • A map of a real space, built by your robot
    • Autonomous multi-station navigation with zero collisions
    • Vision-guided docking
    • A certified autonomous robot base

    WHAT YOU'LL LEARN

    • ROS 2
    • Gazebo
    • SLAM Toolbox
    • Nav2
    • OpenCV
    • YOLOv8
  6. STAGE 06 OF 06

    Real-World Deployment

    “And then, the real world.”

You take on an industry challenge, build a custom robot platform around what excites you, and deploy it on a live site.

The finished robot, fitted for its job, running on a live site

    WHAT YOU'LL BUILD

    • Your custom robot platform, deployed and running a 2-hour mission without a stop
    • A recruiter-ready GitHub portfolio, a user manual and a demo film
    • A capstone defense before a jury of industry experts and faculty
    • A public showcase in front of robotics companies and investors

    WHAT YOU'LL LEARN

    • Nav2
    • MQTT
    • Linux
    • ISO 3691-4

WHAT YOU LEAVE WITH
